Iron being used as the very tool to sharpen iron is the perfect analogy of men’s relationship to other men. The rigors of being a man are best understood by other men who have or are experiencing the same rigors.
Certainly, as Christians there is a uniqueness to manhood that is clearly laid out in the Word of God and carries with it great and awesome responsibilities. It is true that all of God’s family need encouraging, comfort, challenges, and support. We come to church and while there we meet others who can provide those very things.
However, as Christian men, rarely do we have opportunities to find a venue where the very heart of manhood can receive help. That is what GCC’s IronMen Fellowship group is all about. Men of all ages and stages joining together to listen, learn, look upon, and love in a way that is God-focused, and yet, expressed in ways that make men feel genuine and comfortable.
Let’s face, we men are strange creatures with strange needs. Some may call it “male egos” but we call it “the very characteristics God has given us. We take very seriously the roles outlined in the Bible for men and want to honor our Lord by being the best that we can be – only through His power – for Him.
We join together once each month for the purpose of studying God’s Word, fellowshipping around God’s Word, enjoying a hearty meal, laughing, and even playing. We have as our constant challenge to “sharpen” one another and having our “countenance” lifted.
“To create an environment for men to mature in Christ through fellowship with other Christ followers.”
Ironmen Ministry has these ideals they are involved in to reach the common goal of Christlikeness:
1) Monthly meetings and dinners for fellowship and encouragement. To help men in their walk with God.
2) An in-reach ministry where we reach out to help others within our church body.
3) An out-reach ministry where we reach out to help those in need in our community.
4) Ironmen Accountablity that helps to develop spiritual growth through accountability, encouragement, and prayer.
