There is a need for those who wish to minister to others in the Sunday morning or Wednesday evening services when our invita-tions are given. Devotions
II Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
ONCE I went into a second-hand shop filled with all kinds of old junk. It was a shop for the poor, where people could get a free cup of coffee and rest in run-down armchairs. They seemed to be living in a timeless zone, free from the hectic life outside.
While walking by one of the shelves in the shop, I noticed an old cup, a chalice, tarnished and dirty. I decided to buy it and clean it up. I bought it for just the few coins I had in my pocket. The price was less than the cost of a city bus ticket.
When I started polishing the cup, shiny silver began to appear. After a while, I had in front of me a beautiful chalice that could be used in Holy Communion. It was not only worth a lot of money but was also a token of what Jesus did for me when he shed his blood on the cross for my sins. I am not worth a lot in modern society except perhaps for my taxes. I was as dirty as junk, but I have been cleansed by Jesus Christ.
Even though I don’t belong to the upper class of this world and I visit shops for the poor, I am precious in God’s eyes.
Dear God, thank you for cleaning us up and making us new in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Footprints
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
When the last scene of my life shot before me
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
There was only one set of footprints.
I realized that this was at the lowest
And saddest times of my life.
This always bothered me
And I questioned the Lord about my dilemma.
“Lord, you told me when I decided to follow You,
But I’m aware that during the most troublesome
Times of my life there is only one set of footprints.
I just don’t understand why when I needed You most, You leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
